You should definitely give OOSDK a try, it's a fully open source SDK for the PS4, that means you shouldn't have to use any Sony binaries to build your homebrews (you can still do it, but that's up to you, or you can do what Osiris did and tell the user to provide the copyrighted binary by themself) and imo it's more user friendly than PS4SDK
Specter has also prepared a set of videos to instruct interested developers on how to use the toolchain, be sure to watch them too!
