mmMC mounting trouble on 4.81.2 Rebug D-rex

Question

Thibobo    213

Hey folks!

I'm having trouble mounting Games from internal/external HDD , it is something that always worked perfect for me but it does not anymore for now.

So, i'm on 4.81.2 Rebug D-rex (Cobra enabled), i'm using Multiman (mmCM) version 4.81.02 (the latest atm), i do not have a disk inside my BD-drive.

More info:

With the Webman integrated in the 4.81.02 rebug CFW i can mount all my games perfectly fine.

With cobra mode DISabled i can mount my games perfectly with Multiman with BD-rom emulator.

The problem is that i can not mount any game from internal or internal HDD with mmCM when cobra mode enabled & with no disk in the BD-drive(what should work fine) (this is something what always has worked for me.)

Does this have something to do with multiman priorities etc?

I don't know what to try else anymore, so that's why i'm asking it here.

thanks in forward!

Check your BD emulator settings under Debug Settings. Should be set to BD Drive.

Yes I mean those settings. But looks like you have correct setup.

Can you try 4.81.01? In 4.81.02 deank made changes that should only affect netiso on DEX, but maybe is affecting more things.

https://www.sendspace.com/file/ynnjvr (4.81.01)

FYI @Joonie

If you're trying to mount ISO from internalHDD, You should not use webMAN MOD.  [turn it off or switch to webMAN 1.47n]

Because the cached files created by mmCM and webMAN [MOD] can cause conflict.

Try rescanning the game list from mmCM, this bug can happen not just to internal rips but also external ones.

Slowly going out of ideas. Sound like problem is not related to mmCM itself. More like cobra or some firmware hashes/symbols, but at the second hand wMM is mounting games fine.

My last ideas..

- Your game(s) is ISO or JB folder? If only one of that, try opposite one.

- Can you disable webMAN MOD at all in toolbox restart PS3, and try again mount in mmCM. To check that wMM is not locking syscalls, etc.

- Are you using psnpatch plugin? If yes, Disable it, and try again

- Good idea is try to change VSH:

-- To do that select rebug mode, and then try toggle menu type. Retail mean you using CEX VSH, Debug mean DEX VSH. And just fyi, normal mode on dex is always DEX VSH.

If all above fail, then I have no idea how to help. If you feel confident enough to mess with dev_flash files (don't even try this solution on NAND!), you can also try latest cobra stage2 files for Rebug 4.81.2 cobra 7.51 from: https://github.com/Joonie86/COBRA-7.3/tree/master/481/REX/BIN/release But this shouldn't be needed to fix your issue, and try this only if you know what are you doing.

FYI again @Joonie:)

Edit: Lol Looks like I was wrote that post in more than 12 minutes. Of course follow Joonie advice in this case. :)

Thank you for having this topic on here.
I have been searching everywhere for some sort of answer to similar problems.

I used to be deep into the scene, but have been away for a while. I recently have been wanting to get back into my PS3 because of all of the new features you guys have added. So I'm on 4.81.2 D-Rex and we are suppose to have this awesome boot from optical sources feature and it just won't work for PS3 games. Not from normal menu, not from multiman. I will even make the ISO myself, to make sure it is set up correctly. Even some of my retail games act up when trying to run them. Alot of times they will not show up in the normal XMB menu, so I have to open multiman, where they show up in that XMB clone menu, but when I start the game, the screen will just go black and sit like that.

It's almost like the drive just stops reading the disc, then it sits there until I turn the machine off or sometimes eject the disc.

This is on a CECH-A01.

The crazy thing, is it was much more stable on 4.81.1. I just really want to take advantage of my blu-ray burner and but some of my backups on them. However, something is seriously wrong with this release or the settings need to be set up in a way that they are not currently. There might need to be some sort of automated recommended settings program that sets up ALL settings to recommended values depending on the PS3 model you have. I am just at a loss with this and I am pretty good with this stuff, so it must be driving other people crazy, or I'm just stupid, lol.

If yo would like for me to capture some video and post it for you, I will do whatever you need me to do in order to solve our problems, because I think they are related.

Anyways, thanks again for posting this here.

You will get some help here as some of the Rebug devs are here, if you don't get the help here, you can always check PSX-Place, the Rebug and multiMAN people are more active there.

Can be wrong here, but you need cobra 7.52 to run backup discs.

Here is Rebug Toolbox with included *updater* for cobra files (you will find it in menu after install and run):  http://www.mediafire.com/file/pvrp2td5upn6ydy/REBUG_TOOLBOX_02.02.13.pkg

Settings are fine, you are just trying to use feature that don't exist in that release. :)

All default settings are fine for all models. There is no need for additional changes per console version.

Edit: Added tutorial for updater.

Tutorial:

REQUIREMENTS!!
REBUG 4.81.1 or 4.81.2
COBRA 7.31~7.51

1. Firstly make sure you're on REBUG 4.81.X [1 or 2] and COBRA must be active prior to the update, otherwise the option will NOT be shown
2. Locate the option COBRA Payload Updater
3. Select "UPDATE"
4. "COBRA payload updated!" will be shown when finished
5. Exiting the toolbox will restart the system to apply the change
6. Enjoy the new COBRA 7.52

Well then here is the issue,.. The regular update is touted as being able to run all optical media and actually does run PS2 games from optical media just fine. Just not PS3.

I don't have to worry about this on regular dev setups, but converting another old consumer console, it looks like some of the settings that were changed in a previous rebug, stayed the same after the update,.. although I told the guy that's not how it works, he insisted. So then I am assuming that is just a misunderstanding. My first assumption was that it was just the default settings not working for all types of consoles. So I have it here, I am tinkering with it and it really does just flat out refuse to play the PS3 games, but does everything else just fine.

So if it has to be updated again for this to work, someone needs to check the language in the release, because it claims to run everything from optical media.

BTW, Thanks for the replies.

Can you show me where is stated that it will run all optical media? Then someone from Rebug team for sure gonna fix it. I tried to find it, but I can't.

For sure, let me find the places I saw and I will absolutely post them for you.

EDIT:
This isn't the page I am talking about, but here is one with DeanK talking about it, but I need to find the one I am talking about specifically.

http://www.psx-place.com/threads/cobra-changes-to-add-full-burned-optical-media-support.12494/

To me though, fully reading that page now, sounds like him actually MAKING it work,.. not that it came with it, let me find the page I am talking about.

But there is no single word that Rebug 4.81.2 can run burned media without updating cobra file. Also here is release of updater that I linked before: http://www.psx-place.com/threads/cobra-7-52-homebrew-blocker-for-psn-more-rebug-toolbox-02-02-13-new-cobra-payload-updater.12860/

Post states that:

So any version "below 7.52 and 4.81.X" will be supported [REBUG REX / D-REX 4.81.1 and 4.81.2] REBUG 4.80 and below are NOT supported, neither NON-REBUG (Meaning CFWs like HABIB,FERROX and such). AGAIN NOT DECR!!

Which mean that updater need to be used on 4.81.2 to get cobra 7.52 (burned media support). Otherwise there is lower cobra version (cobra revision of Rebug is always mentioned on Rebug.me)

COBRA Payload 7.52 including

  • @habib's bug fix for lv1 peek support for multiMAN,
  • @deank's backup disc support for PS3 games
  • KW and @aldostools's homebrew blocker thanks to @kokotonix for informing

BTW, No Joy on your update.

The disc shows up in the XMB menu, but does not launch properly. Just black screens.

I played it with him on 4.81.1 and it was fine, 4.81.2 seems to have caused some type of issue.

Well, it's obvious to me that the rebug devs are not the ones that posted that update language from the source I am talking about. It's just that the rebug.me has SO MUCH mentioned, that you kind of glance over it, when your primary source has already told you that the update allows all optical media. They need to change that, but I need to find that original page first, lol.

and what is a "homebrew blocker"?

When psnpatch plugin is enabled, then after pushing unlock psn combo, all your homebrew will not boot. This is safety feature for psn browsing/gaming.

Edit: Maybe work also with other syscall disablers, no idea.

Yup,.. shows the new cobra just fine.

I actually just downgraded it back to 4.81.1.

Then I installed the package you posted for me again in order to update the cobra payload.

So I updated the payload and all sorts of strange things are taking place. It's crazy, because I played this console for a bit before I updated it. It worked perfectly fine. Then after the update to .2, it's just been a mess.

I can put a retail game in and it will black screen.

I can open a folder of apps in the XMB and it will freeze sometimes. Didn't do that before.

It's crazy.

I have this B01 to upgrade too and I am scared to touch it, lol.

Edit:

Are there any issues with the system being in DEX mode? Should it be changed before testing to a more reliable setting? I honestly don't know. I have access to great tools and normally don't have to mess with this.

Truly no idea why you have issues like that. Dex mode isn't best idea until you really need it, but still this shouldn't cause issues like that. Also 7.52 and Rebug 4.81.2 are well tested on BC models by many users including one of team members. Looks like something is wrong with your setup, but no idea what.

For sure is good idea to test everything in CEX mode with retail VSH, also disable webman mod, and other plugins. Only enabled thing will be Cobra then, just to exclude any other incompatibility.

Yeah,.. I think you're right. Sounds like something is going on with the console.

I'll work on it a little more and see what happens.

Thanks for your help with the cobra payload for sure.

Just a follow up, I downgraded the thing, then put the firmware to .1, then to .2.
Now it seems to be working pretty good. I haven't tested a Blu-Ray copy yet, but every other backup seems to work just fine and its running much nicer.

So again, thanks for your help.

I'll post more updates if I find the exact reason or more information.
