UPDATE 10/30/2016

Stable NAND Dump and redNAND https://gbatemp.net/threads/stable-nand-dumper-rednand.446819/

The guys at WiiuBru team got a little bit closer to cfw, by being able to boot a fw.img of the root of a SD card after booting a certain elf off HBL. They have been working on it pretty much in the public eye so a lot of the files being traded back and forth have made their way to different sites without full explanation so I feel like this thread was to clear everything up. That being said they probably also wanted to prevent bricks due to misuse and potentially a screwed up fw.img and they fully warn to not use this unless you have a good idea what you're doing.

Quote

However! A "CFW Booter" is not useful without a modified fw.img file to use it with... Thanks to the effort of @smealum several months ago, and his release of iosuhax, making a fw.img with modified patches is as easy as reading and running his code. Anyone can do this now using the above booter, BUT if you use random fw.img's lying around, that's at your own risk.

They also built his wupserver client that was part of iosuhax which allows you to interact with your wiiu from the iosu side dump files. However they have not perfected the full NAND dump procedure yet, but actively getting closer to it.

Quote

As fw.img files are copyright Nintendo, we cannot provide them to you directly. Instead here are the instructions on how to make a wupserver fw.img, and here is a patch that you can apply to one downloaded from NUS. You can do this with the lates JNustool with We know these instructions aren't great, but you can ask if you have questions. Just please /please/ stop running unfinished, dangerous "rednand fw.img's"

Once you run the wupserver on your Wii U by placing that fw.img on the root of your SD and running our elf above, you can connect to it either with a modified version of smea's wupclient.py or the new wupclientgui.py that was developed. Both are available here:http://www.wiiubru.com/appstore/wupclientgui.zip . And if you hate python, a Java Gui version is on the way.

Also they heavily warn not to use random fw.img's lying around that are not endorsed by them because they cannot speak to their legitimacy and potential for irreparable damage is unknown. Also they actively welcome people to come to them and work together on these things. They seem inclusive and would appreciate active contribution in the goal of making more tools.

I have talked to several people about the wii u and why I think it was a good system (for what I paid for it) and most people do not know there are exploits for the system. Most people don't even know you can mod wii mode. I am glad to see the wii u scene is finally starting to pick up. The wii u has secured its place in my entertainment center. It has become my go-to emulation machine. It plays everything nintendo except for 3ds games.

Do you use emulators in vWii mode, or inject roms into VC games? I haven't really tried any emulators yet. Hopefully once sig patches are a thing permanently installed emulator channels that let you select games will be a thing. I don't know what the WiiU is really capable of, but the gamepad is a game changer, I like the layout for emulators, and the screen is big.  If I had more gaming time, this thing that plays GBA, GC, N64, on the go without a TV is very cool. But I think GC only works in vWii mode, if they could move that to regular WiiU mode that would be cool. Hopefully something not seen comes from the woodwork like a emulator for a console not seen yet. PS2 or PSP or some non-nintendo console. I don't know if it will ever happen or even plausible.

I like the Weeeeuuuu but... I dont really see it as an emulator device. GC/PS2 and newer system is so much better emulated on the PC in 1080p+, the older systems are more suitable for handhelds IMO, so in that regard I think the Vita is a much better option.

The greyzone is the N64, which doesnt really emulate that good on any system other than a PC. But other than PC the WiiU is probably the 2nd best option for that system.

But Im a bit of a special case though, as I have all my consoles plugged into the PC monitor, meaning I have all systems at the same location and can easily chose the best system for a certain task, without having to move my lazy ass :P

Well, I really like emulators and tried many Wii emus on vWii. Unfortunately, the input lag makes the experience intolerable. I tried NES, GBA, MSX, Genesis and SNES emus and the result was always the same input lag. RPGs like Pokémon and Final Fantasy are playable, but I do not recommend playing games like Adventures of Batman and Robin (Genesis) , Batman (NES) or Pocky and Rocky (SNES)  - or any SHMUP - emulated on vWii...

A little of both.

As far an unseen emulator.... Xbox 360 did PSP emulation.
