All New Xbox One Dashboard May Not Work Properly!

Recommended Posts

Thanks to @GregoryRasputin, we all know now that Microsoft have updated their Xbox App for Windows 10.  Preview members are now looking at an all new Windows 10 inspired dashboard for the Xbox One, seems pretty sweet right?  Well, don't get too excited just yet.  If you were thinking of getting this update you might want to take a step back and re-analyze your decision as a variety of games may either fail to launch, or show graphical and stability issues during the dashboard's beta phase.

Microsoft warned people ahead of the first wave of invites, which should be going imminently, also noting that some other games may suffer from stability issues.

The following games may fail to launch with the beta dashboard:

  • Guacamelee: SCTE
  • Unmechanical
  • Elite: Dangerous
  • Pool Nation FX
  • D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die
  • Xbox Fitness
  • Skylanders
  • Destiny: The Taken King
  • Game Compilation Discs: ex. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, Saints Row IV.

The following games may encounter graphical or stability issues:

  • Forza 6: You may encounter graphical errors (screen turns a blue or purple hue) when participating in races.
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity: Installing Assassin’s Creed Unity DLC while the game is open will cause it to crash when the DLC finishes downloading.
  • Elder Scrolls Online: Logging in to an existing character will cause an error indicating you do not have network connectivity and prevent you from connecting to the server.
  • Titles with DLC installation issues: You will be unable to install DLC from game collection as no manage UI is present. Simply download the DLC and bundled title from the Store.

It is thought that the new Windows 10 inspired dashboard will go live later this year, by which point most of these issues should have been bug fixed and stamped out.

This new Xbox One update takes a huge focus on performance, speed, and design.  Many options have been simplified and easy to get to.  When you double tap the Xbox button on the controller, a new pane will appear giving you a quick and easy access to things such as your friends list, notifications, and messages.  There's a lot more options included in this update.

Cortana, a smart voice activated personal assistant, allows you do things you'd never imagine before.  This new addition can help you get achievements by looking up videos and information, allows you to set reminders on your phone to then later receive it on Xbox One, will tell you the weather if you ask; it will basically do almost anything you want it to!  The only downside to Cortana which has been confirmed by Microsoft is that at launch it will not work with a headset, so if you don't have a kinect simply type in any questions you have and she will answer.

As we can expect, running into a few problems after the update is no surprise.  Some of these bugs include multi-title discs not working the way they should, unresponsive controller to buttons being pressed, and/or visual problems.  If any of these problems occur, a need for a hard reset may be the fix.  If you choose to opt out of the update, a call for a factory reset is the only way to revert back to the original dashboard, however, loss of data will result in doing so.

Here is a preview of the update in action:

Let's keep in mind that the dashboard will only be in its beta stage folks, bugs like these could surely be inevitable with such a big update like this.  What do you think?  Will you be updating your Xbox One now, or will you be waiting for its final stages?
